A town in Canada is said to have accepted Bitcoin for city tax payments. According to the Financial Post, the local council of Richmond Hill voted to accept BTC for real estate tax.

The Council made a decision on July 10, allowing citizens, as well as businesses, to pay their property taxes in BTC. Richmond Hill is located in the north of Toronto, with a population of more than 200,000 people. It is the second town in Ontario to allow tax payments with crypto, after Innisfil, and both are using the Coinberry payment processing platform.

This partnership explores the availability of Coinberry's technology underway by the Richmond Hill Council, with a final decision to be made on August 30.

"We believe that the demand for cryptocurrency payments will increase in the coming years, especially millennials." The Vice Mayor of Richmond Hill, Joe Di Paola, said:

“Our board has turned Coinberry to successfully launch a digital currency payment service with Innisfil Town, and because there are no fees and no risks to the City of Richmond Hill if we do the same. So we made the decision a lot easier ”.

Note: Millennials are the generation of people born between 1980 and 1998 (19-37 years old), making up about 80 million people, 32% of the world's population.
