In an announcement released this week, Tunisia's central bank shattered unfounded rumors of becoming the first central bank to issue a cryptocurrency.

The Central Bank of Tunisia has yet to cooperate with any domestic or foreign supplier for the purpose of creating its own cryptocurrency.

However, the bank admitted is still reviewing the central bank's digital currency (CBDC), but has no plans to immediately issue an E-Dinar as the articles recently reported. The central bank of Tunisia said it is studying the opportunities and risks inherent in this area, especially in terms of cybersecurity and financial stability.

Last week, the Russian news agency Tass reported on the collaboration between the Central Bank of Tunisia and Blockchain University to develop and launch a digital currency. However, the Central Bank has corrected that no announcement has been made. Instead, this is just a CBDC pilot project at FOREX - an event organized by "a single roofing company cooperating with MOIT".

On Wednesday, the Bank of China denied rumors of the issuance of a national digital currency.

The Central Bank of China said it is still researching and testing its own digital currency, so rumors about the official release date of this digital currency are inaccurate.
