Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba has partnered with the shopping app Bitcoin (BTC) Lolli to allow users to purchase and receive 5% in BTC back. Alibaba customers can now receive Satoshis (sats) - Bitcoin's smallest currency, worth 0.00000001 BTC, when buying thousands of items online, Lolli said.
World's largest retailer and one-day biggest shopping event
This partnership event was announced on the exact "Singles' Day" - a popular shopping holiday in China on November 11 and considered the world's largest day shopping event. According to Lolli, Alibaba's shoppers spent more than $ 31 billion on Singles' Day in 2018.
Alex Adelman - CEO and co-founder of Lolli, pointed out that the new move is an important partnership for Lolli as Alibaba is the world's largest retail and e-commerce company.
He declared:
“Our partnerships allow our users to earn free Bitcoin from millions of products online every day. Arguably the most important part of this partnership is that it supports our mission to connect the world through commerce. ”
Feature available only in the US
As reported by CoinDesk, the new program will only be available for purchase in the US. Aubrey Strobel, head of communications at Lolli, stated that residents in China will not be able to participate and that products will be shipped from China to users in the United States.
In the report, Adelman said the company plans to expand globally by 2020 and emphasized that the partnership is a great first step to connecting China and the United States through Bitcoin and commerce.
Earlier today, Toiyeubitcoin reported on Fold - one of the oldest Bitcoin redemption shopping apps, that supported the Airbnb rental service. With the new feature, users can purchase redemption cards to receive 3% Bitcoin for each stay and experience being booked on the platform. The app works in selected countries including the US, Australia, Canada, Ireland, Mexico, and the UK, depending on the particular brand.
With regards to Alibaba, the Chinese retail giant has so far not been Bitcoin-friendly. On October 10 this year, Alibaba-owned digital payments firm Alipay reiterated its negative stance on Bitcoin, confirming that it will mute all BTC-related transactions.
