As reported by NewsBTC, the Dementia Society (DSA), an American non-profit organization, has just announced they will accept cryptocurrencies as a form of donation.
In a press release, DSA said it will accept 5 cryptocurrencies, Bitcoin (BTC), Bitcoin Cash (BCH), Ethereum (ETH), Litecoin (LTC), and USD Coin (USDC) to donate to a charity organization. Kevin Jameson, President of the Association, said:
“We want the crypto community to know that we support innovative means of exchange. Over 2,000 years ago, we exchanged salt and gold for our work - because they have value in it - today, its bits and bytes and since the Association came into existence more than 5 years ago, they I understood that there is lasting value to human kindness, no matter what currency. "
In addition to donations, the organization is also implementing a "click on the brick" program that allows market financiers to use cryptocurrency to buy bricks used to build the new DSA headquarters.
The crypto appeal to the DSA is that according to the applicable tax code, donations of property are not taxable. Yes, that only happens when the IRS considers cryptocurrencies an asset. This is plausible, although it may not happen forever, for now, the move means more money is being raised to help those in need.
